Hope your weekend's going great. It's been a good few weeks here at Maverick HQ.... 

I was pleased to be invited to appear on a podcast last week to talk about all things men. Testosterone, libido, and the ability to pitch a tent came up plenty of times, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for when that's released in a few weeks.

Away from a podcast in London to the next day in Milton Keynes. This is where in other big news my brother won his first ever physique competition. At the UK Ultimate Physique show he took 1st place in his Classic Bodybuilding category. As a lifetime drug-free athlete, Ryan's win was made more special by a show that otherwise allows untested athletes to compete. Competition was tough, but smart training and dieting won the day (along with a pretty badass routine)!

Try these "Butt Scratchers" to hit your abs

"Butt scratchers" - appropriately named after how a dog looks when it's trying to wipe its butt on your carpet. Performed going backwards they can be an excellent exercise to hit your abs. These particularly hit the 'lower' fibres of your 'six-pack' muscle, as it works with its natural function of posteriorly tilting the pelvis.

if you don't have sliders then don't worry. watch the video to find out more.

Try 3 sets of 12-20 reps for that pummelled abs feeling. The idea is to tuck your pelvis under, behind your arms. Hold here for a second to really feel it work.

Should you mix weights and cardio?

Well that depends on your goal. The short answer is that whenever possible you should try to avoid mixing them - it messes up the 'signals' your trying to tell your body. However, if endurance is your priority, or strength is a secondary goal behind fat lass and general fitness then I wouldn't sweat it.
